Queen Anne house with corner boards (where carpet used to be), how can I end this?

HI. I have a 1886 Queen Anne's. It is a historic house, and has beautiful wood floors from 6-all. The problem is: When I pulled the carpet in the lounge, there is the beautiful wooden floor around the 24 outdoor "space inside. So, are 8" - 10 "(variable) wide planks that go the length of the room, and are built around a bay window. There are cracks between the boards-some are perhaps 1 / 4 "or more. I was told that this part of the floor was not finished because the carpet had been placed there as a" room "for the carpet was very expensive then. My question is: I do not want to carpet it. I have 4 young children and have a hard enough time with her like that. I need to know what to do with it. I plan to paint it, but what do I do about the cracks in between? Could it be removed? Could you use some wood that Puddy is a simular color wood floor to fill all cracks and holes. then give him a better you can sand then stain to a Cherry Wood, golden oak, Light Oak or dark, and once it is dirty, you can brush on a clear protective layer that adds a sparkle and shine to the wood. or go to the woods with all new wood or wood and carry re looking as if it was or go with something new like a floating wood floor.
