Metal Detector Purchase Q's?
My family is looking into purchasing a metal detector as a family hobby. We have a very old house and a ton of old jewelry/trinkets have been surfacing in the yard where there used to be an old road and a barn. I have no idea in what to look for to shop. It will be a hobby so I don't need a $500 + pro. On the other hand, I don't want a cheapo hobbyist one either. Would like something that would tell the metals we came across and possibly what it is and how far? What should I be looking for as far as power or range? Thanks!
Try Harbor Freight Tools. I have their $25 unit (about 3 yrs old now) and it is every bit as good as the $150 Radio Shack unit which my friend has. Many times I can detect things deeper than his unit can. Mine works normally to depths of about 10 in to a foot even in hard ground.
